Black Tailed Mule Deer
Odocoileus hemionus hemionus
Group of two females (sisters, perhaps?), each with their fawn,
still spotted at this time of year (mid June, 2005). The Black
Tailed Mule deer are our most common deer, and we have a lot of
them. Later in the summer the most successful males will gather up
a large harem of up to twenty females. Active mostly in the
morning or at night, these deer are voracious consumers of
anything herbacious that they can reach, and that isn't too
fragrant.
